La Cambalacha is a cultural and educative project that was founded in 2002 in San Marcos la Laguna. Every year the school facilitates processes of sensitization and artistic formation with 3,000 boys, girls and youth of six local Kaqchikel and Tz’utujil communities from around the Lake Atitlan basin area.
Escuela Caracol provides education for children in the Lake Atitlan region that is holistic, multilingual, arts-integrated and intercultural. Their goal is to nurture and develop the whole child, not only the head but the heart and the hands as well, while also encoraging an awareness of humanities place within nature and the cosmos. Through this distinct approach Escuela Caracol strives to foster integration within our whole community, which represents a unique blend of indigenous Maya and international families.
San Marcos Holistic Centre is a highly respected therapy center in San Marcos. They offer massages, therapies, and courses. All different types of massages including Swedish, Thai, Deep Tissue, and Back and Neck. They have many different therapies such as Reiki, Chakra Balancing, Kinesiology, Reflexology, Colour Therapy and many more. The Holistic Center offers more than 10 different courses in massage, energy work, yoga, Emotional Freedom Technique, Reiki, and Kinesiology. Their focus is treating the whole person: body, mind, and soul.
Las Piramides del Ka is a Meditation Centre that is based in the lovely town of San Marcos la Laguna, surrounded by lush vegetation and right on the shore of the lake. The Centre has two Meditation Temples, pyramid-shaped cabins, a library, medicinal herb garden, communal kitchen, sauna, a private dock and a vegetarian restaurant.
Just up the mountain from Antigua, and situated on 40+ acres, Earth Lodge is a wonderful place to get away and be surrounded by nature. Wake up to gorgeous views of the surrounding volcanoes and cities below as the sun casts its first light over the valley. Then spend the day swinging lazily in a hammock or hiking the hills while active Volcano Fuego puffs smoke in the distance.
El Paredon surfcamp is a great place for anyone from experienced surfers, beginners or travellers with a taste for a rustic, relaxing, hostel-style place to stay on the beach. The best waves in Guatemala, an exotic black-sand beach, located in a very local and tranquil fisherman village at the Naranjo National Park.
Atitlan Resource is the official resource site for Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. This site is run and managed by the Jovenes Mayas Kaq’chikel located in San Marcos la Laguna in the highlands of Guatemala nestled in the cauldron of a lake volcano.
