GENERAL STAFF REQUIREMENTS

soul projects staff marc shackman and qwilym scrivenSoul Projects is always looking for free spirited, open minded, energetic and adventurous travellers to join our project team in the field, as staff, all year round.

The only general physical requirements that we ask for, are that you are in excellent health & physical fitness, and that you are able to commit to the expedition for the minimum of atleast 12 months.

A good strong POSITIVE attitude, flowing energy and giving nature is what we look for most in our staff. Someone with an eagerness to learn and grow, to follow their heart and live their dreams, and want to help others do the same, is far more important to us than any formal qualifications.

Please Note: A certain level of proficiency of the Spanish language is important in all of our staff members, but it is not necessarily essential to be fluent!

EXPEDITION LEADER

Minimum Amount of Time Required: 12 months

Position Summary:

To manage the complete running of the expedition 7 days a week on our forest/beach camps and in the village of San Marcos la Laguna.

Main Position Responsibilities:

To work to budget & keep an accurate set of accounts for each expedition.

To manage all expedition staff, local employees, and volunteers in an effective way on our forest camp, beach camp and in the village of San Marcos la Laguna.

To safe-guard and maintain the deep positive spirit & soul of the expedition and therefore the philosophy of Soul Projects at all times.

To manage and be responsible for, the well-being and safety of all expedition staff, local employees & volunteers at all times.

To be responsible for ensuring there is always adequate shelter, food, water, supplies, equipment, cooking & sanitation facilities for all expedition staff, local employees and volunteers.

To look after, maintain and keep project vehicles & equipment in good condition, and therefore operational and safe for expedition use.

To preserve and enhance the positive & trusting relationships with the local families and local community that have been created, whilst always being respectful to their different way of life, traditions and culture.

To plan, organize, manage and co-ordinate the smooth running of the various activities and sessions of the expedition 7 days a week.

To assist the Expedition Scuba Diving Instructor with the efficient running of our Lake Scuba Diving Exploration and Clean-up Project. Roles could include driving the expedition dive boat, by dropping-off and picking-up scuba divers, leading dives in the lake itself, or assisting with the dive courses.

Position Requirements:

A valid First Aid & CPR certification of some sort. Wilderness First Aid Training would be an advantage!

A Full Driving License with 4x4 Off Road Experience.

A PADI Divemaster OR Open Water Scuba Diving Instructor Certification with Teaching Experience (With an Active Teaching Status!)

A Motor Boat Driving Licence e.g. RYA Level II. With Experience of Dropping-off and Picking-up Scuba Divers.

At least an Intermediate conversational level of the Spanish Language is Required!

Other Useful Experience:

Previous travelling & backpacking experience, and work on other similar volunteer projects in developing countries would also be a distinct advantage.

Expedition experience, hiking, camping, love for the outdoors, experience leading groups, living & working in the forest, in the mountains or on the beach, in more natural isolated environments would come in very handy.

Experience Using, Fixing & Maintaining Dive Equipment, Dive Compressors, Outboard Boat Engines and 4x4 Trucks would also be very useful.

 

YOGA & MEDITATION TEACHER AND ENGLISH & CREATIVE ARTS TEACHER

Minimum Amount of Time Required: 12 months

Position Summary:

To teach yoga & meditation 3 days a week whilst we are at our forest/beach camps to our volunteers, to manage, coordinate and run the English & Creative Arts School Teaching Project 2 days a week with our volunteers, and to help out with all other daily activities of the project.

Main Position Responsibilities:

To teach Yoga & guide Meditation sessions 3 days a week (3 morning sessions & 3 afternoon sessions) whilst on our forest and beach camps. Each Yoga session is 2 hours long, and each meditation session is 1 hour long.

To plan, organize, manage and co-ordinate the smooth running of our local school English & Creative Arts Project, two days a week, with our 3 different local groups of Guatemalan children. Please Note: One of the schools that we are working with provides for children & adults around the lake who have a variety of physical & mental disabilities.

To safe-guard and maintain the deep positive spirit & soul of the expedition and therefore the philosophy of Soul Projects at all times.

To assist the Expedition Leader where required to help manage and be responsible for, the well-being and safety of all expedition staff, local employees & volunteers at all times.

To assist the Expedition Leader where required, to help be responsible for ensuring there is always adequate shelter, food, water, supplies, equipment, cooking & sanitation facilities for all expedition staff, local employees and volunteers.

Position Requirements:

To have some sort of Yoga & Mediation teaching experience ,or atleast a very deep and consistant personal practice. Please note: It is not necessary to have an official certification. All we ask is that our Yoga & Meditation Teacher has been personally practicing for at least 3 years and consider yoga to be a big part of their life.

At least an Intermediate conversational level of the Spanish Language is Required!

Other Useful Experience:

A Meditation (e.g. Vipassana) and an Internal Martial Arts appreciation, understanding and some teaching experience would also be very useful e.g. in Taijiquan, Qigong, or in another similar art like Capoeira.

A Love for kids & experience with teaching English (e.g. TEFL Training) and the Creative Arts to children of various age groups, and with disabilities would also be an advantage. With lots of creativity, imagination, energy and patients thrown in!

A valid First Aid & CPR certification of some sort. Wilderness First Aid Training would be an advantage!

PADI SCUBA DIVING INSTRUCTOR & EFR INSTRUCTOR

Position Summary:

To train our volunteers up to being PADI Rescue Divers 3 days a week, to run, manage and co-ordinate our Lake Exploration & Clean-up Project efficiently, and to help out with all other daily activities of the project.

Main Position Responsibilities:

To teach and train our soul volunteers up to being responsible PADI Rescue Divers 3 days a week at our forest & beach camps and in the village of San Marcos la Laguna.

Own Complete Set of Scuba Diving Equipment (Including: BCD, Regulator, Dive Computer, Fins, Booties, 7/8mm Long Wetsuit, Mask, Snorkel, Weight Belt (Minus the Weights!), and Delayed SMB on a Reel.

Full Scuba Diving Instructor Professional Liability (Indemnity) Insurance for the entire length of your contract with Soul Projects.

Other Useful Experience:

Previous travelling & backpacking experience, and work on other similar volunteer projects in developing countries would also be a distinct advantage.
